Colour Blending Online Workshop: Materials List

For this study I suggest you use merino wool, in the 18-20 micron range.  You can use other wools, but the results will vary and you may not se the full effects of the blending.

Fibres and materials:

You can buy prefelts for this class- you need only very small amounts of prefelt.

If you choose to make your own prefelts, this is the total amount of wool you will need for the whole workshop:

  • 43 grams/ 1.5 ounce each of 6 of the main colours you have in your wool stash. Ones you love to use, or choose 6 of your favourite colours. Aim for a range of warm and cool colours.  I most want you to work primarily with colours you really love so you can take these colour ideas immediately into your work! We refer to these as your six selected colours throughout the study.
  • 15 grams/0.5 ounce wool in 2 or 3 contrasting colours of your choice. Choose colours that you like, but that will stand out against your six selected colours (above)
  • 21 grams/ 0.75 ounce x black wool
  • 15 grams/0.5 ounce white wool
  • 8 grams/ 0.28 ounce, each of yellow, bright turquoise, and magenta (bright pink). Red can be substituted for the magenta.
  • 6 grams/ 0.2ounce each x beige and grey wool
  • 6 grams/ 0.2 ounce each x your 5 favourite hues or a range of hues covering both the cool and warm side of the colour wheel- note- these are different from the six colours you chose just below.

This includes enough wool to make all of your prefelts plus have the wool for each study. Instructions for making the prefelts are HERE.
