Join me in a short but enriching study in blending colour using fibres and fabrics! When you chose to go beyond working in single colours, it can be hard to know or decide what colours to use in combination, especially when looking at silk fabrics and wools, and trying to imagine what would be best for your project. This short study works through a wide range of these possibilities, giving you a wonderful and beautiful set of references to help you make those colour decisions in your future projects.
We can create so many beautiful and unique colour ways, by hand blending fibres, blending fibres alone, and fibres and fabrics through fibre migration. Feltmaking creates optical blending on the surface, meaning both colours are present individually, but our eye reads them as a new colour, one that has more depth, and fullness and is more rich than when single colours are used.
This is a very fun and fascinating short study during which we make three pieces of felt, each one demonstrating different properties of colour blending.
These felt pieces are invaluable references and can be kept as they are, mounted as felt artworks, or sewn into practical objects. Ideas for turning these pieces into accessories for the body or the home will be included at the end of the study. They can be made into cushion covers, vase sleeves, vessels or bags, and more. The emphasis of the class is on the flat studies we’ll be making, but I know you sometimes like to have an object, at the end of the class, so I’ll share with you some ideas on how to transform your flat studies into functional pieces.

This workshop is ten days long. We do some colour carding, using our fingers or small brushes and then make three pieces of felt- each one demonstrating a different aspect of blending colour through feltmaking.
This class material is presented through videos, downloadable PDF, with clear text and lots of images, plus online classroom pages. There is no live aspect to this class. You can access the materials at any time, from any time zone and work at a pace that best suits you!

Note: If you took my Colour Studies class last year- you have already done this study- it is the last section of that workshop, but separated out, since the making of these is so fun and informative and the information stands well on its own.
