March 10-12: Judit Pocs, Sculptural Hats

Materials List

You will have the opportunity to choose from several different hat styles. Each style will require slightly different materials, and Judit suggests that you bring some extra wool and beads, as your packing will allow, to keep your options more open.

  •   Fine Australian merino wool in roving, (wool top) in various colors (Micron 18-19), 700 grams total.
  •   Cotton cloth for rolling (e.g. an old piece of cotton sheet) 100 x 100 cm (40 x 40 inches)
  •   Sharp scissors
  •   Hand soap (any baby soap)
  •   Water spray/ball brauser
  •   Tape measure
  •   Pins
  •   Pliers
  •   Needle and thread
  •   Hat-block (in your size) if you have one. If you don’t have a hat block, we will have a hat block making session one evening during the workshop, so you will have one to work with.
  •   Wooden felting tools to shape the hat, if you have them
  •   Bring some extra embellishing fibres like silk thread, or viscose that you might want to work with.
  •

In case you would like to make the Bud hat or a double (triple) shape, or you would like to work with beads, then you also need:

  •   Around 300 beads, with a diameter 3-5 mm, the hole should have a size between 1-2 mm
  •   Wool yarn on which you string the beads (a total of 6-7 m)
  •    Synthetic organza fabric, 100 x 40 cm (40 x 16 inches)

Workshop materials fee $35.00: Some materials will be provided for your use during the workshop including bubble wrap, laminate floor underlay, water bucket, towels, permanent markers, thin painter plastic, paper for designing, netting, dish detergent, pool noodle, starch and brush, saran wrap, scales and beeswax.

This fee will be payable before the start of the workshop.
